Going Public Launch Party 2009

Going Public Launch Party 2009

15th December 2009

Africa Research Institute launched it's latest paper Going Public: How Africa's integration can work for the poor. The publication considers half a century of efforts to advance Africa's integration - a process often hamstrung by a surfeit of competing ambitions and lack of political will. The authors argue that regional integration in Africa needs new direction - it's overriding purpose must be to reduce poverty. For too long policymakers have placed disproportionate emphasis on the creation of larger trading blocs. Regional public goods, whether publicly or privately funded, are a more effective way to help the poor.

Policy Voices Launch Party 2008

17th December 2008

Africa Research Institute launched its new Policy Voices series at a Christmas Party in December. Policy Voices highlight instances of personal achievement with wider implications for policy-makers in Africa. In publishing these case stories, Africa Research Institute seeks to identify the factors which lie behind successful interventions and to draw policy lessons from individual experience.

'Feeding Five Thousand: The case for indigenous crops, in Zimbabwe' and 'Think Small: The example of small grants, in Madagascar' are the first in the new series. Their authors, Chidara Muchiniripe and Brian Donaldson, spoke at the party.

Guests were served traditional Malasy food and Zimbabwean finger millet. Music was provided by the acclaimed Senegalese Kora player, Kadialy Kouyate.
